I
read in the Daily Punch
of June 30 a write up by
Demola Oni a Punch
correspondent in
Abeokuta in which a law
maker claimed he was
made to take an
oath of allegiance
to Governor Gbenga
Daniel of
Ogun State before
the last election. I am
surprised this, is being
made news because every
one has to swear to an
oath of allegiance
before he takes up a
position of
responsibility in any
country in the world.
Even in the law courts
you are made to swear to
tell the truth and
everyone is made to
swear by an object or
what he believes. What
makes swearing by, Ogun,
Sango, Amadioha, or a
shrine different? It is
obvious that some people
are trying to make a
mountain out of a mole
hill. It is obvious that
these dishonest elements
had no interest in being
part of
Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s
project but to benefit
from the fact that he
was the people’s choice.
Who among the
politicians of today can
affirm that he or she
did not swear to an oath
of allegiance in one
form or the other to the
people’s choice in other
states so as to secure
his or her seat? Who
among the politicians of
today can affirm that he
or she did not have to
identify so as not to be
sidelined? Can any house
owner sleep with a
poisonous snake on his
roof?
Remember what Jesus
Christ said to the
people who wanted to
stone a prostitute. He
asked ,”he that is of no
sin, let him cast the
first stone”. Nobody
did.
Some people are destined
to answer the calling of
their name. The Holy
books tell us that
Daniel was
prosecuted by the
unbelievers. He was
thrown into the Lion’s
den by people who wanted
him out of the way so
that they can continue
to deceive the people.
The Holy books tell us
the hungry Lions did not
harm him because he was
doing God’s will.
There are evidences on
ground to prove to every
one that Otunba Gbenga
Daniel has been doing
God’s will. The voice of
the people, Is the voice
of God. He has within a
period of five years
done what many Governors
could not do. He has
made it possible for
many sons and daughters
of Ogun State to come
home to their state.
There is no doubt that
some parochial people
who do not want the
rapid in-flux of
development will stop at
nothing, to derail the
process.
When you swore to serve
Ogun State Government
you were indirectly
swearing to serve in
Otunba
Gbenga Daniel’s
Government. This is
Nigeria, not
Britain or America. We
swear with what ever we
all agree to swear with.
In history we are told
that when some women
wanted to dethrone a
king, years back they
besieged the palace “Logolonto”.
So what is strange in
people taking oath of
allegiance “Logolonto”
if ever such a thing
happened? Let’s stop
chasing shadows. Do not
forget, there is still
much work to be done. We
need peace to do them.
